Your gutters are an indispensable part of your home as they direct rainwater away from your home and prevent water from pooling on your roof and damaging your foundation. However, some homeowners aren’t certain as to how their gutters are doing. Here are three signs that tell you that it’s time to have your gutters replaced.
1. Numerous Cracks, Holes or Rust Spots
These blemishes occur due to sustained exposure to the elements. Wind, hail and corrosive materials can damage your gutters over time and cause these spots. If only a small portion of your gutters are affected, your contractor can treat them with a fair amount of sealant and a little flashing. However, if a large chunk of your gutter is affected, then you’re better off replacing the entire system.
2. Multiple Broken Fasteners
The fasteners are an important part of the gutter installation process since they secure the gutter to the fascia. If your gutters have broken fasteners, they will become unstable and won’t hold rainwater securely. This also puts other parts of your home at risk, such as the siding and windows. It’s possible to repair them if only a few fasteners are broken, but the problem may lie in the gutter itself if there are a lot of broken ones.
3. Separated Gutters
Your gutters can only function properly if they are fastened together seamlessly. If they start to disconnect, water would spill over, and they will no longer function as intended. If your gutters separate regularly, you may want to have them replaced as soon as you can.
