What to Expect During a Typical Storm Damage Restoration Project

As soon as the storm passes, and you know that your home has sustained damage, it’s crucial that you call in a trusted restoration company as soon as possible. By acting quickly after a natural disaster, you can still save your home from greater damage, which would mean paying more costly repairs otherwise.

However, you can’t just go out and check your home without taking any precautions.

Precautions to Take When Checking for Storm Damage

Before going out, make sure that your local area is safe. Check the news to see if the storm has passed. Once you’re in the clear, watch out for hazards in and around your home, such as exposed nails or broken glass. Avoid standing water as much as possible, especially if there are nearby downed power lines. These are dangerous, so always assume that they’re still energized, and stay at least 10 feet away to be safe. Don’t forget to alert the police and utility company.

After a heavy storm, there will be other several physical hazards as you check for storm damage, such as broken windows, collapsed roofing materials, collapsed walls and even standing water in your basement or home interior. We also advise against checking for water or storm damage after dark, but if this is unavoidable, carry a flashlight instead of a candle or other open flame. This will reduce the risk of a fire or a leaked explosion from a damaged gas line.

What to Expect During a Storm Damage Restoration Project

Once you call for restoration and residential roofing services, we’ll come to your home as soon as possible and do a thorough examination to determine the extent of damage. We’ll discuss the renovation plans with you and your insurance agent. Once we’re all in agreement, we start the renovation process immediately.

The type of restoration service will depend on the kind of damage your home has sustained. For instance, if your basement is flooded and water damaged, we’ll use specialized pumps and vacuums to remove water from the affected areas. We’ll also bring in our dehumidifiers and air movers to prevent mold and mildew from spreading and damaging other parts of your home.
